This style of prayer candle is used in many forms of spirituality, from Catholicism to more esoteric practices. They’re designed to burn for 7 days (ish) and each have a different purpose. Cast a spell on crush, wish for better luck, or remove a jinx – and don’t forget to take it all with a grain of salt. These are made in Gowanus, Brooklyn by Crusader Candle Co., an old-school maker of paraffin candles of all types, identifiable by the horseshoe on the bottom of the glass jar. Since 1946, they’ve been a major supplier of botanicás all over NYC and the surrounding region.
